The Kentucky Wildcats and head coach Mark Pope gained a huge boost for the upcoming season this past week with the commitment of former Missouri forward Mark Mitchell out of the transfer portal. Mitchell has become one of the best available players following a recent court ruling granting a fifth year of eligibility to many student athletes from the class of 2022.

With Kentucky looking to get back to the program’s glory days of being a legitimate NCAA Tournament threat, the addition of Mark Mitchell via the temporary re-opening of the transfer portal via court injunction, might mean the Wildcats have already arrived at that point, as per college basketball analyst Rob Dauster of The Field of 68.

“If Mitchell remains eligible, the second weekend is the floor,” Dauster exclaimed during a recent segment. “This is Elite Eight, Final Four good, and it’s probably going to end up being one of the most expensive rosters, if not the most expensive roster in college basketball.”

Mitchell was not the only high profile transfer that Kentucky added this offseason. The Wildcats landed Milan Momcilovic from Iowa State, who was arguably the top player in the portal. They also got a big boost when big man Malachi Moreno opted to withdraw from the NBA Draft and return for his sophomore season.

With Mitchell, Kentucky adds a rugged forward with good size who is coming off a career year at Missouri. He appeared 33 games at a little over 33 minutes per game. He averaged 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists with splits of 54.7 percent shooting from the field 38.8 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 66.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
