Mark Mitchell commits to Kentucky Basketball

Did someone say one final BOOM to the 2026-27 Kentucky roster? We got it, as Mark Mitchell committed to the Wildcats on Saturday, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.

Mark Pope and Kentucky have landed one of the biggest remaining pieces available, as the former Missouri Tigers forward is joining the Cats after receiving a temporary injunction that allows him to pursue a fifth season of college basketball.

Mitchell received his temporary injunction Friday in Louisville, allowing him to continue his college career after initially being ruled out of another season under NCAA eligibility rules. The ruling also opened the transfer portal for the plaintiffs through Friday, Aug. 28. Mitchell entered the portal shortly after receiving the ruling and quickly committed to Kentucky.

What a way to fill the final roster spot.

Kentucky could now have a starting five of Zoom Diallo, Alex Wilkins, Milan Momcilovic, Mitchell and Malachi Moreno. That group would give Pope plenty of scoring, shooting, size, physicality, and experience. Momcilovic can stretch defenses from the perimeter, Mitchell brings another versatile scoring option at the 4, and Moreno gives Kentucky a true interior presence at center.

And, of course, Kentucky fans now get the potential triple M&M combination of Milan Momcilovic, Mark Mitchell, and Malachi Moreno.

For Mitchell, this is another chapter in an impressive college basketball career.

The 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward was one of the top recruits in the 2022 class. According to 247 Sports, Mitchell was ranked No. 13 nationally, No. 3 among power forwards and No. 1 overall in Kansas. He was also a 5-star recruit according to Rivals and 247 Sports.

Mitchell chose Duke over Kansas, UCLA, and Missouri and immediately became an important piece for the Blue Devils. He started 35 games as a freshman and another 32 as a sophomore, averaging 9.1 points and 4.5 rebounds as a freshman before improving to 11.6 points and six rebounds as a sophomore.
