Louisville men’s basketball team will be without one of its key players for the upcoming season, as guard London Johnson has been dismissed from the program.

“London Johnson has been dismissed from the University of Louisville men’s basketball team due to a violation of team rules and University policy. We wish him the best in his future endeavors,” the statement read.

It’s uncertain what Johnson specifically did, and details may come out at a later time.

Johnson spent three seasons in the NBA G League and then joined Louisville midseason in December 2025. After that, he redshirted the 2025-26 season. He started in the team’s exhibition game last month in the Bahamas, and he finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Louisville recently made an addition to their program from the transfer portal, and it was former North Carolina guard Seth Trimble. Even with the addition, there still seem to be questions surrounding the roster, with one of them being if they’ll have enough shooting to stay competitive, according to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68.

“Louisville’s a team that now, I think now you look at Louisville and you say, ‘hey, they’re probably a preseason top-five-ish team,” Goodman said. “Now you look at them and you’re like where’s their major weakness other than perimeter shooting. I’m not sure they have one … can they make enough shots.”

It’ll be interesting to see how Louisville fares against their early opponents, and players will have to show their ability to knock down shots.
