MSU basketball transfer Jaxon Kohler reportedly meeting with pair of teams

Former Michigan State basketball star forward Jaxon Kohler is expected to meet with a pair of top tier programs on Wednesday.

According to a report from college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, Kohler met with Kentucky via a Zoom call earlier in the day and is expected to meet with BYU in the evening. Both Kentucky and BYU are considered the top threats to land Kohler’s commitment out of the transfer portal, but Louisville and Kansas have also been reported to be in the mix.

Kohler is considered one of the top fifth-year players looking to play another year of college hoops thanks to a recent court injunction. Following the passing of the injunction, Michigan State was initially considered in the mix but head coach Tom Izzo shut down the chance of a possible return when he stated he was set with the roster he had already built for next season.

Kohler wrapped up his four-year career with the Spartans this past season, averaging 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game to help lead Michigan State to the Sweet 16. He was not selected in the 2026 NBA Draft but played with the Utah Jazz in the NBA Summer League.

It’s not clear the timeline for when Kohler plans to make a decision, but one can assume it’ll happen quickly now that he’s meeting with schools. If I had to guess, I’d assume he ends up at BYU but we will have to see how this one plays out over the next few days or weeks.
