Four Schools Showing Interest in Ex-Spartan Tre Holloman

It’s transfer portal season in August.

It may be just a couple of months until the college basketball season gets underway, but it feels a little bit like April. Not because of the little chills that creep up the spine, reminding you that fall is nearly upon us, but because transfer portal players are once again flooding the market. Players from the 2022 high school graduating class are now available to potentially return for one last season of college sports.

However, Spartans fans will need to temper any expectations about Michigan State adding a player to its current roster. Tom Izzo has already come out and said that the Spartans’ roster is set for the 2026-27 season.

That includes former Spartans such as Jaxon Kohler and Tre Holloman, who once donned the green and white and are now available to potentially return to college basketball. As Michigan State fans have already learned, Kohler has received interest from four schools himself. Now, it is being reported that another former Spartan, Holloman, is also drawing interest from four schools.

Per Jon Rothstein, Holloman told him that he has been receiving interest from Utah State, Cincinnati, St. John’s and Providence.

Of course, none of those four schools are currently on Michigan State’s schedule. So, for the Spartans to get a rematch against Holloman, it would likely need to come in one of the final non-conference games yet to be announced or potentially in a matchup during the NCAA Tournament.

Holloman spent his first three seasons with Michigan State, where he averaged 9.1 points per game during his junior season.

With a role seemingly carved out for him at the two-guard spot, many fans were surprised when Holloman decided to take his talents south to N.C. State during last year’s transfer portal cycle. At N.C. State, Holloman played in 32 games and averaged 9.2 points per game, but the Wolfpack couldn’t make it past the First Four play-in games.
