Michigan State basketball transfer Jaxon Kohler is reportedly down to two schools, with a decision expected as soon as Thursday afternoon.
Jack Pilgrim of KSR reported on Thursday afternoon that the former Spartans star forward is now only considering BYU and Kentucky for his commitment. Kohler is seeking a fifth year of eligibility through a recently passed court injunction, meaning he’ll get to play one more season of college hoops at a new school.

Kohler had also previously been reported to be in contact with Kansas and Louisville, but both of those schools are no longer in contention it appears. A return to Michigan State was also not considered an option with head coach Tom Izzo moving forward with the roster he had built prior to the court injunction.
Kohler wrapped up his four-year career with the Spartans this past season, averaging 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game to help lead Michigan State to the Sweet 16. He was not selected in the 2026 NBA Draft but played with the Utah Jazz in the NBA Summer League.
BYU and Kentucky have been linked to Kohler as the top two candidates in the last few days. So it doesn’t come as much of a surprise to hear they are the two remaining finalists. We will have to keep our eyes out to see where Kohler ultimately picks to finish up his college career next year.
