The NBA, like NASCAR, is in a fantastic place economically. The jersey patches are ugly, the court advertisements are distracting, and it’s infuriating that you have to subscribe to 17 different streaming platforms to watch every game. But the sport is reaching more fans than ever before and making more money than ever before. I don’t think it’s particularly in need of saving, even if it’s at times frustrating.

Is this roster better than their record last season would suggest?
Talent wise, absolutely. There’s no way that you can look at a team with Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler III, Draymond Green, Kristaps Porziņģis, and a solid bench, with Steve Kerr coaching it, and think the true talent level is 37 wins. But the annual question with the Warriors is: how healthy can they be to actualize the talent that’s on the roster?

If the question is, “Will they win more games than last year?” then I’m still saying “yes,” though. Sure, Butler and Moses Moody are going to play fewer games this season than last, but they’ll have a full season of Porziņģis, and even with his many health issues, he should far exceed the 15 games he played with Golden State a year ago. More importantly, Curry should play more than 43 games this year … and, as a reminder, the team went 24-19 when Curry played last year, and 13-26 when he didn’t.
So yeah. Even with Butler’s injury, I think this roster is better than a 37-45 team … there are just abounding questions about actualizing that.
