If former North Carolina guard Seth Trimble is allowed to play college basketball in 2026, it will come with a new team. Trimble will reportedly transfer to Louisville … if he is able to keep his eligibility.
Trimble, 22, entered the transfer portal in the spring. He was part of a ruling that allowed “class of 2022 high schoolers a fifth season of college eligibility,” per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Whether the ruling holds up remains a major question. The NCAA has argued against it, which means Trimble and others will “need the U.S Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit to uphold the injunction,” per Thamel.
Trimble showed promising skills in his four previous seasons at North Carolina. As a senior, he averaged 14 points and three assists per game. He helped North Carolina make it to the NCAA tournament, where the team lost its first-round matchup vs. Virginia Commonwealth despite being the higher seed.
Following his time at North Carolina, Trimble went undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft. He did, however, sign a deal with the Washington Wizards and played a few games in the NBA Summer League. Trimble’s contract with the Wizards was not an NBA deal, leaving open the possibility he could still return to college if he retained his eligibility. That’s the same path James Nnaji used to head to Baylor last season.

Louisville was set to enter next season as one of the strongest teams in college basketball prior to the Trimble transfer. If the move is upheld, the Cardinals will be an even more formidable force moving forward. If not, Louisville should still have enough firepower to turn in a truly exceptional year.
