Duke Football: 2026 Season Schedule Analysis

The 2026 football season is rapidly approaching and, no surprise, the Duke Blue Devils are receiving little to no respect in preseason polls and articles.

The ACC media preseason poll predicts Duke will finish 10th out of 17 teams. ESPN analytics predict Duke will win only five of 12 games. It is time for our Blue Devils to outperform the talking heads once again.

Once again? Yes.

In 2025, Duke was predicted to finish 6th but ended the regular season in a tie for 2nd and won the ACC Conference Championship Game (ACCCG), beating Virginia 27-20 in overtime to become conference champions. The media underestimated Duke in previous years as well, but no need to go through the list.

Duke enters the 2026 season riding a four-game winning streak with wins over North Carolina, Wake Forest, Virginia (ACCCG), and Arizona State (Sun Bowl), to close out the 2025 season. The Blue Devils have qualified for a bowl game the past four seasons, and are looking to extend the streak to five bowl eligible seasons in a row.

What is Duke’s ceiling in 2026? Is it six wins and a trip to a fifth straight bowl game? Is it a return trip to Charlotte with a chance to repeat as ACC Champions? Is qualifying for the College Football Playoff in the cards? Let’s take a look at the schedule.

There are multiple ways to break down the upcoming season. Looking at home games versus away games is a conventional method. Looking month-by-month, seeing as Duke plays four games each in September, October and November, is convenient. Splitting the season into before the bye week and after the bye week works some seasons but is less appealing in 2026 due to Duke’s bye week falling after the fourth game of the season.

Whichever method you use, it’s obvious that Duke needs to win early, and win at home. Most of Duke’s tougher opponents, based on preseason expectations, are on the backside of the schedule (Illinois in Game 2 being the exception). and most of the tougher opponents are played on the road…
