Brotherhood Podcast #78 – Dame & JoJo Talk Duke, Barcelona, And Hoops In General

The latest Brotherhood Podcast is out, and this time, Dame Sarr is interviewing Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje.

It makes sense, because both guys came through FC Barcelona, so they get to compare notes on that, and on how Duke found them.

And check out what Boumtje Boumtje said when Sarr asked him what he liked to do outside of basketball. Duke fans (and the coaching staff) are going to love this:

“I mean, I’m really chill. Like, I just live and breathe basketball. My mom’s always telling me I need to find hobbies.

“Like, if I’m not playing basketball, I’m watching basketball or, like, coaching my little brother through basketball or something. So I enjoy, like, even just like the go-karting we did last week. That’s kind of stuff I really love.”

It sounds like he’s going to fit right in.

One more quote on why he chose Duke:

“Really just my gut feeling. Like, I like a lot of the schools that I had offers from, but at the end of the day, I think the thing that sold it was, if I go to one of these schools, I feel like I’m missing out on Duke. For Duke, I didn’t feel that way for the other schools.

“Like, I didn’t feel like I was missing out on going to, I don’t know, UNC, for example. Like, it would have been great, but I feel like I would have been missing out on Duke if I had gone to UNC. So, just stuff like that, the fit, like the plan that Coach John has for me, like all of that, it’s really what brought me here.”

By the way, Boumtje Boumtje makes it clear at the top that he prefers to be called JoJo, so JoJo it is.

By the way #2: he mentions coaching his little brother, Robert, now 14. No idea if he’s a significant talent yet, but there may be another Boumtje Boumtje on the way.
