Gonzaga basketball head coach Mark Few spent the offseason fiercely opposing March Madness’s expansion. But now Few and the Bulldogs must roll without Mario Saint-Supery in a stunning Saturday move. Although he’s not entering the College Basketball Transfer Portal.

Gonzaga insider for the Spokesman Review Theo Lawson revealed where Saint-Supery will now head.

“Shocking news out of Gonzaga. Starting point guard Mario Saint-Supery is leaving to join Valencia of Liga ACB,” Lawson began on the social media website X, formerly Twitter. “Saint-Supery says farewell to Gonzaga in the Instagram post below. Zags are suddenly without a PG signed to the 2026-27 roster.”

This sudden exit raised this question: Will a recruit reclassify and immediately join the incoming Pac-12 program? Lawson brought up one 2027 commit to closely monitor.

“Dooney Johnson told me three days ago neither he or Gonzaga’s staff had explored reclassifying, but if there was ever a time to explore it…” Lawson posted, while adding how top-ranked ’27 prospect Marcus Spears Jr. reclassified and will join Texas right away.

The Longhorns happen to be the last college team Saint-Supery will have faced. The No. 11 seed stunned the higher seeded Bulldogs to clinch their spot into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The now ex-PG scored nine points and dished out five assists in that 74-68 upset loss.

Outside of seeing March Madness expand to 76 teams soon, Gonzaga is undergoing another transition period. The ‘Zags officially became a Pac-12 member as of July 1, leaving behind the West Coast Conference. Few’s Bulldogs will likely enter the 2026-27 season as the favorite to win it all. But now they must pull it off with a thinner point guard room.
