Syracuse and UConn to rekindle old Big East rivalry in exhibition

Basketball fans of a certain age will remember the days when Syracuse and UConn used to face one another twice a season, with legendary coaches Jim Boeheim and Jim Calhoun on the bench for so many of those tilts.

The Orange and Huskies don’t see each other as much with the former’s move to the ACC, but the two schools will get together for an exhibition game on Oct. 13.

“We are looking forward to playing in the 2026 Basketball Hall of Fame Exhibition Game against UConn at the Mohegan Sun Arena in October,” said new Syracuse head coach Gerry McNamara.

“Opening the exhibition slate with the Hall of Fame game at Mohegan Sun has been awesome the last few years and we’re excited to do it again. Matching up with an old rival in Syracuse at a first-class venue is exciting for our fans as they’ll be able to get their first look at our new team in live action. The Hall of Fame always puts on a high-level production with a big-game feel that will prepare us for our marquee early season matchups,” said UConn head coach Dan Hurley.

The women’s basketball programs from both schools will also square off a day earlier.
