UConn men’s basketball has announced a third preseason contest this year, against Syracuse. They’re already set to take on Michigan State and Purdue in exhibitions before a non-conference slate that features Duke, Michigan, and Arizona, among others.
On Tuesday, Jon Rothstein reported that the Huskies will play the Orange on October 13 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, the third straight October that UConn will have an exhibition at the casino court.

The Huskies and Orange last faced off in the 2K Empire Classic on November 15, 2018, in an 83-76 UConn win over #15 Syracuse at Madison Square Garden. Many fans remember that as Dan Hurley’s first “signature win” and the viral clip of him aggressively chest-bumping Jalen Adams at the conclusion.
All-time, the Orange have won 56 of the 95 meetings between the two programs.

There’s a new head coach on the sidelines for Syracuse this season, as ex-Siena coach and former Orange standout Gerry McNamara was brought in fresh off his Saints going toe-to-toe with Duke in the NCAA Tournament in March. McNamara has constructed an intriguing roster, bringing Gavin Doty and Francis Folefac with him from Siena in addition to some key transfers in Garwey Dual and Aidan Tobiason, and a pair of notable returners in Kiyan Anthony and Sadiq White.

The Syracuse game is the third preseason exhibition for the Huskies ahead of the 2026-27 season, but the first on the calendar. UConn will also visit Michigan State to conclude a home-and-home exhibition series that began with a Husky win in Hartford last season and host Purdue in a 2024 national title rematch.
UConn previously played Rhode Island at Mohegan Sun in 2024 and Boston College in 2025, winning both exhibition games.
