UConn Huskies head coach Dan Hurley was one of the attendees for the recent UFC Freedom 250 fights at the White House, which got him wondering about 1600 Pennsylvania Ave playing host to college basketball games. If he got his way, it would be UConn and Duke facing off against each other at the White House, as per TMZ Sports.

“That would be good, man. I think UConn should definitely be in it, maybe UConn vs. Duke,” Hurley said. “That would be pretty cool. I’m definitely down.”

Should that idea ever come to fruition, it would definitely be held on the outdoor lawn similar to the UFC fights. Over the past several years, there have been a few college basketball games played in outdoor venues. One of the most recent events was an exhibition game between Iowa and DePaul during Caitlin Clark’s final season with the Hawkeyes that was held at Iowa’s football stadium. The event drew a record crowd.

There have also been men’s college games that were played on US Navy aircraft carriers, but due to persisting outside conditions, those kind of games have been since halted.

When it comes to UConn and Duke, however, the two teams are scheduled to play against each other during their non-conference schedule in November at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It will be a rematch of last season’s Final Four game in which UConn advanced off of Braylon Mullins’ game-winner. Both teams are expected to be among the nation’s elite in 2026-27.

Dan Hurley will be entering his ninth season at the helm as UConn head coach. During that time, he’s compiled an overall record of 350-180, and has led the program to two national championships.
