Dan Hurley Pitches UConn vs. Duke at the White House After Success of President Donald Trump’s UFC Freedom 250

The White House celebrated President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday and the 250th anniversary of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence by hosting the UFC Freedom 250 this past Sunday.

After the event’s success, Dan Hurley has pitched his idea for the next big sporting event, one worthy of being held at the White House.

UFC Freedom 250 was a historic event, as it was the first professional sporting event held on the South Lawn of the White House. Hurley, who was in attendance for the special UFC event on Sunday, believes that one of college basketball’s most remarkable matchups should be the next big game to take place at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

“That would be good, man. I think UConn should definitely be in it. Maybe UConn-Duke!! That’d be pretty cool, I’m definitely down,” Hurley told TMZ when asked about college basketball being played at the White House.

President Trump is a noted basketball fan and attended the NBA Finals earlier this month to cheer for the New York Knicks. Considering his passion for sports, it would certainly not be a surprise if this idea came to fruition one day.

UConn and Duke have enjoyed considerable success on the March Madness stage since the turn of the century. The two college heavyweights have also faced off in some thrilling NCAA Tournament matches over the years, most notably the 1999 national championship game that saw the Huskies pull off a remarkable upset by ending the Blue Devils’ 32-game winning streak.

The two programs also met in the Final Four in 2004, with UConn once again winning in a nail-biter. Trailing by 8 points with less than 3 minutes to go, Emeka Okafor came up clutch and led UConn to a 79-78 win.
