Wizards C Alex Sarr reportedly has surgery on fractured right foot, expected to be ready for 2026-27 season

Washington Wizards center Alex Sarr had surgery performed on a fractured right foot on Monday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports.

Sarr, 21, sustained the injury last week during a workout in which a contact play was made. The 7-footer is expected to be healthy by the beginning of the upcoming season, which will be Sarr’s third NBA campaign.

In his second season, Sarr performed like the player the Wizards envisioned when selecting him No. 2 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. However, he was limited to 48 games due to hamstring and toe injuries. Sarr averaged 16.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2 blocks per game, while shooting 33% on 150 3-point attempts.

The Wizards are expected to improve significantly from a 17-65 record that was the worst in the NBA last season after adding Anthony Davis and Trae Young in trades to join a young core that includes Sarr, Kyshawn George (14.8 ppg), Tre Johnson (12.2 ppg) and Bub Carrington (40% on 3-pointers).

Washington won the NBA Draft Lottery to receive the No. 1 overall pick and could add either BYU’s AJ Dybantsa or Duke’s Cameron Boozer to play alongside Sarr and Davis in the frontcourt. Or the Wizards could opt for Kansas guard Darryn Peterson to man the backcourt with Young.
