The Knicks locked up their first title since 1973 with a 94-90 Game 5 win over the Spurs on Saturday night.
New York wins the series 4-1.
Here are some takeaways…
— Knicks fans have always showed up and showed out, and that was no different here. Reports indicated that the orange and blue faithful purchased 45 percent of the tickets for Game 5, and it certainly sounded that way early, as the Spurs were booed as they took the court for pregame warmups.

— As had been the case all series, though, it was San Antonio who threw the first punch. The Knicks found themselves trailing by double-digits during the opening quarter for the fifth straight game, finishing with just 13 points in the first (none in the paint) as they started an ugly 4-of-22 shooting with six turnovers.
Victor Wembanyama led the charge with six points, five rebounds, and three blocks in the first.
— The early-part of the second quarter was much of the same. Wemby continued to dominate on both ends of the floor, while the Knicks went scoreless over the first three minutes of the frame before a Karl-Anthony Towns jumper fell, but the lead quickly stretched out to as many as 16 points.
Prior to Towns’ bucket Jalen Brunson (8) and OG Anunoby (5) accounted for all of New York’s points.

— The Knicks came storming right back, though, with a Brunson surge and Mikal Bridges‘ first two threes of the night helping them cut the deficit down to six midway through the quarter. A late Flagrant 1 call on DeAaron Fox turned into a five-point play, which helped New York get back to within five heading into the break (42-37).
Both teams shot a combined 32 percent from the field and turned the ball over 17 times during the first half.
— Mitchell Robinson, starting the third in place of Towns who was sitting with four fouls, picked up a Flagrant 1 of his own on a similar play as Fox on Wembanyama. The five-point swing in the other direction helped the Spurs push the lead right back out to double-digits in the opening minutes of the half.
— Refs missed another Flagrant minutes later, though, as Wemby was clearly in Brunson’s landing zone…
