UConn basketball secured one major offseason move already in keeping Braylon Mullins. But head coach Dan Hurley and the Huskies delivered a supersized College Basketball Transfer Portal Move Monday: Landing Arkansas center Elmir Dzafic.

CBS Sports college basketball insiders Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz revealed the move. Dzafic enters the UConn facility standing at seven-feet, 285-pounds.

He surely hands the two-time national title winning head coach Hurley needed size down low. Especially amid a notable departure in Storrs.

The National Championship Game runner-up loses top center Tarris Reed Jr. to the upcoming NBA Draft. Reed bruised and brutalized opponents down low in becoming the Huskies’ leading scorer. He ends his illustrious run averaging 14.7 points per game.

But Reed isn’t the only major loss for Hurley and company. UConn lost Reed’s eventual replacement too in Eric Reibe, who jumped into the portal and landed at USC this offseason. Reibe is helping create new enthusiasm for Trojans basketball amid their recruiting/portal moves. But the Huskies lost a 7-foot-1 talent there.

Dzafic rarely saw action on the floor playing for head coach John Calipari at Arkansas. He played in seven games total and scored just one point in three contests versus Southern University, Jackson State and James Madison University. The native of Bosnia entered the portal officially on April 7 and find his next home nearly two months later.

He becomes a new offseason victory in what’s become an aggressive period for UConn. And not just limited to keeping Mullins from testing the NBA Draft waters. Former Duke talent Nikolas Khamenia joined UConn too on the same day Mullins revealed his intention to return.
