For the second season in a row, the Iowa men’s basketball team will venture to the state’s capital for a game. This time around, the opponent will be more difficult.
Last season, the Hawkeyes took on Bucknell inside the Casey’s Center in Des Moines. Iowa won that game in blowout fashion in front of a sellout crowd, 94-39, as Ben McCollum made his return to Des Moines.

Iowa announced on Thursday that it will return to Des Moines to battle Creighton inside the Casey’s Center on Sunday, Nov. 15.
The Bluejays are members of the Big East Conference. Last season was a struggle for Creighton, as they finished under .500 and missed the NCAA Tournament. Historically, the program has been very good and a perennial tournament contender.
Creighton will look very different next season when they make the trip to Des Moines. Longtime head coach Greg McDermott retired a few months ago. Former Hawkeyes Josh Dix and Owen Freeman both transferred away from Creighton after one season with the Bluejays.

Even with a new-look roster and coaching staff, Creighton is still a marquee program that will present a much bigger challenge to Iowa than Bucknell did. It will be a huge opportunity for McCollum’s team to show that the Elite Eight run wasn’t a fluke. This game has all the makings of a fun, early-season nonconference clash.
