Georgia basketball to play Duke in Madison Square Garden, per report

Coming off back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances, the Georgia men’s basketball program will take on arguably the most famous program in its sport inside the World’s Most Famous Arena.

The Bulldogs will square off against Duke next season in the 2026 Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York, according to a report from college basketball insider Jon Rothstein on Friday, May 29.

The game will be part of a double-header, with Alabama and Houston facing off in the other matchup of the event.

It will be the sixth meeting ever between the Bulldogs and Blue Devils, but the first since 1932. Georgia leads the all-time series 3-2.

Under fifth-year head coach Jon Scheyer, Duke has gone 124-25 since Mike Krzyzewski’s retirement and made it to at least the Elite Eight in each of the past three seasons. Despite losing reigning national player of the year Cameron Boozer to the NBA, the Blue Devils bring back key pieces such as Patrick Ngongba, Cayden Boozer and Caleb Foster and welcome former Wisconsin guard John Blackwell, one of the top players from the transfer portal. Duke is widely projected as a top-five team in early rankings for the 2026-27 season.
