Iowa State basketball star Milan Momcilovic first hinted at his playing future on March 29. The 2026 NBA Draft now knows his fate.

The star forward withdrew his name, per ESPN college basketball insiders Jeff Borzello Pete Thamel Wednesday. However, Momcilovic hasn’t officially returned to the Cyclones just yet.

“Momcilovic, the best shooter in the country last season, is the No. 1 player in the portal and remains uncommitted,” Thamel posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

The Cyclones now earn a chance to pluck him out of the College Basketball Transfer Portal. He teased a possible return to Ames, Iowa amid the early part of his pre-draft process.

“I don’t know what feedback we’ll get,” Momcilovic said to Alec Busse of 247Sports back in March. “We’ll see if I stay in or come back.”

He’ll head back to a team seeking redemption if he puts on the Cyclones uniform again. Tennessee ended Iowa State’s March Madness 2026 run with a 76-62 loss. The Big 12 powerhouse even briefly lost fellow star Joshua Jefferson momentarily. Momcilovic hit an average of 16.9 points per game last season from his forward spot. He even delivered a 20-point outburst in the NCAA Tournament against Kentucky during the second round.

But the 6-foot-8 talent remains highly coveted by other programs in the portal, not just limited to Iowa State. Louisville rose as a “serious threat” to land him according to CBS Sports’ Kyle Tucker on May 13. Big East champion and Sweet 16 team St. John’s is another pulling off aggressive recruiting moves and could pounce on Momcilovic, per Joe Tipton of On3/Rivals.
