Onsi Saleh reportedly signing ‘long-term’ extension to remain as Hawks GM

The Atlanta Hawks and general manager Onsi Saleh have reportedly agreed to a “long-term” contract extension, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Saleh will also be promoted to president of basketball operations.

Saleh joined the Hawks in 2024 as assistant GM. Following Landry Fields’ dismissal after the 2024-25 NBA season, Saleh was promoted to GM. Before he joined the franchise, Saleh served as the vice president of basketball strategy and team counsel for the Golden State Warriors and spent five seasons as the San Antonio Spurs’ director of strategy & process/chief of staff.

In Saleh’s first season as GM, the Hawks won the Southeast Division for the first time since 2020-21 with a 46-36 record. They would go on and lose to the New York Knicks in six games in the first round.

The success during the 2025-26 season led to Saleh being voted runner-up for Executive of the Year and Nickeil Alexander-Walker winning Most Improved Player — the second straight season a Hawks player has won the award after Dyson Daniels last year.

Since taking over, Saleh added Alexander-Walker, Jonathan Kuminga and CJ McCollum, among others. He heads into this offseason with two first-round draft picks next month, including No. 8 overall.

Saleh’s roster management led to the Philadelphia 76ers seeking to speak with him this month for their opening GM position after the firing of Daryl Morey. Atlanta quickly shot down the request.
