Michigan State basketball center withdraws from NBA Draft process

While the basketball world awaits the NBA Draft decision of Jeremy Fears Jr., another domino fell for Michigan State basketball on Wednesday, as incoming transfer center Anton Bonke has officially withdrawn his name from the NBA Draft process.

This was a lower-profile decision than Fears’, obviously, but still an important one for the Spartans. While it was unlikely that Bonke was going to make that jump after playing for Charlotte in the American Athletic Conference last season, at 7-foot-2 with the ability to shoot the ball, it wasn’t outlandish for Bonke to test the waters.

A strong season with the Spartans could elevate his draft stock moving forward, especially if Izzo and his staff can help Bonke improve on the defensive end of the floor. Last year, Bonke averaged 10.6 points per game to go along with 8.3 rebounds while shooting 34.2 percent from three for the 49ers.
