Kentucky Basketball vs. Louisville Cardinals date set for 2026-27 season

This should make Big Blue Nation happy. The annual Kentucky Basketball vs. Louisville Cardinals game will be on Saturday, December 12. After being played on Veterans’ Day last year, the Bluegrass Rivalry is back in December, where it honestly belongs to stay.

We don’t know the network and time of the game, but we do know it is on the second Saturday of December. It was on that day in the 2024-25 season, Mark Pope’s first season as head coach of the Wildcats. Kentucky won that game 93-85, with Lamont Butler scoring 33 points on 10-10 shooting from the field with six three-pointers.

We all know how last year’s game went. Kentucky got behind by as many as 20 points midway through the second half and lost 96-88. They made it an 88-84 game late, but Louisville held on down the stretch. It was not a good night all the way around for the Wildcats, who were ranked No. 9 at the time. They never sniffed the top 10 again last season.

This year, it will be Round 3 between Pope and Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey. Both head coaches have won on their respective home floors in the first two years they’ve led their teams into the Bluegrass Rivalry. Now, it’s the rubber match, at least right now, set for December 12th at Rupp Arena.

Kentucky leads the all-time series 40-18, with the Wildcats winning 14 of the last 18 matchups dating back to 2010. UK had won three straight and six of seven before UL’s 96-88 victory at the Yum! Center this past year.
