Date set for Louisville-Kentucky men’s basketball game

The Battle of the Bluegrass is returning to December, but not in its typical spot between Christmas and New Years.

Louisville and Kentucky will square off inside Rupp Arena on Saturday, Dec. 12. The time of the game and the television coverage details will be announced at a later date.

This will be the second earliest date for the rivalry game over the last 20 years, behind only last year’s game which was played on Nov. 11. The Cardinals prevailed in that contest, 96-88.

I guess it’s better than the day after Christmas, but this is still such a forgettable spot on the college basketball calendar to put a game of this magnitude. Whether you loved or hated the super early date last year, there’s no question that the game received far more attention than it did in years where it was sandwiched in between bowl games and NFL games with playoff implications.

At the end of the day, though, I suppose all that matters is that we’re paying attention. Play the game on Halloween or St. Patrick’s Day, just win.
