All eyes on Jeremy Fears Jr. ahead of NBA Draft withdrawal deadline

I will admit, I did not think that Michigan State basketball would be the center of one of the most interesting conversations surrounding the NBA draft and the next season of college basketball. A month ago, most of us assumed that Jeremy Fears Jr. would certainly be back in East Lansing next year, despite going through the NBA draft process. That has suddenly become less certain, as Fears was one of the most impressive players at the NBA Draft Combine, getting on the radar of multiple teams interested in his services.

With us now one day away from Wednesday’s 11:59 PM ET withdrawal deadline, all eyes now turn to Fears to see what direction he goes, in a decision that will have massive ramifications for next year’s college basketball season and MSU basketball.

Fears is one of just three Big Ten players, along with Illinois’ Andrej Stojakovic and Washington’s Bryson Tucker, who have yet to announce their return. They have less than 48 hours to do. If Fears returns to MSU for another year, he will be one of the preseason favorites to be Player of the Year and will likely have MSU as a top ten team, or very close to it, entering the season. If Fears decides to go pro, the Spartans will need to decide if they will try to entice a transfer to come in last minute, or give the reins to talented incoming freshman Carlos Medlock Jr.
