The Oklahoma City Thunder were missing Jalen Williams in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals. They will now be missing a different starter in Game 4.
OKC guard Ajay Mitchell has been ruled out for Sunday’s game with a right calf strain, per the NBA injury report, after exiting Friday’s game early. Williams, who sat due to a hamstring injury, is listed as questionable.
Ajay Mitchell came up huge for the Thunder when Jalen Williams had to miss time earlier in the playoffs.

The Thunder currently lead the series 2-1 over the San Antonio Spurs after their win in Game 3, which saw their bench score 76 points in Williams’ absence.

The loss of Mitchell hurts, though. The second-year player finished fifth in voting for Sixth Man of the Year voting and averaged 21.2 points and 5.3 assists in the six games OKC played in the previous two rounds without Williams.
If Mitchell and Williams are both out, that leaves a starting guard spot opened and plenty of options to fill it. Jared McCain, Alex Caruso and Cason Wallace all saw at least 24 minutes on Friday and were part of that huge bench effort.
Game 4 is scheduled for Sunday (8 p.m. ET, NBC/Peacock).
