After laying low for most of May, Dan Hurley and staff have added another player via the transfer portal. Isaiah Shaw, a 6-foot-8 wing from Northern Arizona, is set to join the Huskies for the 2026-27 season. Shaw started his career at Grand Canyon, where his father Casey is an assistant coach, before transferring to Valparaiso and spending last year with the Lumberjacks.
Shaw, who will come to Storrs as a redshirt senior, appeared in 27 games for NAU last season, averaging 8.1 points per game and shooting 46.4 percent from three. The lefty scored 20 or more points three times last season, including a 21-point performance against Bobby Hurley’s Arizona State Sun Devils. The Hurley connection with Shaw doesn’t stop there, as NAU assistant coach Tim Russo served as a grad assistant during UConn’s 2023 national title run.

With Shaw in the fold, UConn has added some mature depth behind Duke transfer Nik Khamenia as the Huskies try to solve the void left by Alex Karaban. Shaw’s size and ability to stretch the floor will be important off the bench, as he will likely be tasked with having to guard multiple positions. Outside of Khamenia and Wofford transfer Nils Machowski, Shaw is likely the best 3-point threat that the Huskies have added to the roster from the transfer portal.
The addition of Shaw gives UConn six transfers heading into the 2026-27 season, signaling an expected new era for the program after losing the likes of Karaban and Tarris Reed to graduation. Including Solo Ball’s medical redshirt, UConn now has 13 scholarship players out of a maximum of 15.
