Michigan Basketball’s first-round opponent revealed for 2026 Players Era Championships

Earlier this offseason, it was announced that the Michigan men’s basketball team would be making its return to the Players Era Championships in Las Vegas for the 2026-27 season. And according to multiple reports on Thursday, the full bracket has been set and Michigan’s first-round matchup has been revealed.

The format for this year’s tournament is a bit different than what it was last year, but Michigan will get things started vs Creighton in its opening matchup. If they win, the Wolverines will play the winner of Miami and TCU.

Rather than the pool play format that we saw last year, this year’s format features an eight-team bracket to be played the week before Thanksgiving, as well as a 16-team bracket during the week of Thanksgiving starting on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

Michigan will be playing in the 16-team bracket with its aforementioned first-round opponent Creighton, as well as some other big programs like Tennessee, St. John’s, Gonzaga, Louisville, Alabama, Baylor, and Miami. Teams like Houston, Kansas and Florida will play in the eight-team bracket the week before.

The full brackets are shown below:

Last season, Michigan swept its way through the Players Era Championship, winning the tournament with blowout wins over San Diego State, Auburn and Gonzaga. The event ultimately proved to be a springboard for Michigan’s great season and eventual national championship run, and the Wolverines will have a great chance to defend their title in Las Vegas once again in 2026.
