The second stint for Will Wade with the LSU Tigers is already drawing backlash across college basketball. After pulling in a handful of former NBA players, several prominent voices are questioning the direction of the sport under the current rules.

Wade, who was fired by LSU in 2022 following allegations of recruiting violations and misconduct, rebuilt his career at McNeese before heading to NC State. He returned in the midst of controversy with no players on the roster. Naturally, he immediately assembled one of the most unconventional lineups in the country.
During Tuesday’s episode of The Field of 68 podcast, Rob Dauster and Jeff Goodman tried to explain LSU’s aggressive portal and international recruiting haul. Most of the players coming into Baton Rouge have pro experience. The Tigers have already landed transfers Mouhamed Dioubate, Abdi Bashir and Divine Ugochukwu, along with several older international professionals.
Among the most notable names is Israeli guard Yam Madar, a former NBA Draft pick and EuroLeague veteran who turns 26 in November. He was reportedly offered $5 million. Goodman wasn’t going to stand for it all.
“Will Wade, I wish you didn’t come back to college basketball,” Goodman said.
“I honestly, I mean that. I like Will. I’ve known Will since he was an assistant at Harvard back in 2007, 2008. But, man, you suck for college basketball right now. Seriously. You suck for college basketball. Like, you’re making it into a mockery. And look in the mirror, and understand it’s not just about you. This is about more than just you. This is about the sport of college basketball. Have some pride. Have some dignity. Don’t try to ruin the sport.”
