Prairie View A&M made a statement in HBCU basketball by winning the SWAC Championship and eventually earning its spot in March Madness. Now, they are loading up for next year, landing a former four-star recruit with experience at Wyoming and with Penny Hardaway at Memphis.

6-foot-2 guard Jared Harris has committed to the Panthers, announcing his decision on his Instagram page.

“UNO 💛💜 is back,” he said in the caption.

A lingering toe injury limited Harris during his stint with the Wyoming Cowboys, causing him to miss the final 20 games of the season, including the team’s appearance in the National Invitation Tournament. Before being sidelined, he appeared in 12 games and averaged four points while playing close to 10 minutes per outing. Prior to Wyoming, Harris played in 16 games during his lone season with the Memphis Tigers men’s basketball.

Before entering college basketball, Harris established himself as a prolific scorer at the high school level. During his senior year, he averaged 21.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game while ranking 45th nationally with 309 made field goals.

Wyoming coach Sundance Wicks spoke highly of Harris when he committed to the team.

“We scored ourselves a Texas trifecta by adding the highly-touted Jared Harris to our roster. Jared has the ability to be a very impactful player for us with his ability to play both ways and all the natural gifts he possesses.

He added, “What I loved most about our vetting of Jared Harris was that everyone we talked to absolutely loved the young man as a human being, first and foremost. High character and a crazy-high ceiling, Jared has that rare mix of athleticism, aggression, skill and the will to win.”
