Kentucky’s Otega Oweh shows scoring ability at NBA draft combine

Despite a disappointing season, the Kentucky Wildcats have a few players hoping to hear their names called at the NBA draft this year. Performing well at the draft combine this week can help their chances, and guard Otega Oweh is taking advantage of that opportunity so far.

Part of the process is playing in scrimmages, and Oweh has chosen to participate in those, playing for Team Weems. In the two games he played in, Oweh played well, and he has shown what made him an effective scorer at the college level.

In game one on Thursday, Oweh made 7-of-12 shots from the floor, including a three-pointer, and scored 20 points. He added 4 rebounds and didn’t turn the ball over. Then, on Friday, he struggled from deep, but scored 21 points and had 5 rebounds and a steal.

In both games, he showed off his strength and ability to get into the lane to either score or get fouled. He attempted 18 free throws in the two games, a valuable skill in the NBA.

Oweh isn’t a surefire draft pick at this point. He’s not a great shooter, and doesn’t handle the ball well at times. However, his scorer’s mentality and toughness are unmatched. The NBA draft combine continues this week, and Big Blue Nation is certainly rooting for Oweh.
