NBA legend and Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady has now reportedly taken a big step into both his and his son’s basketball careers. McGrady’s 20-year-old son, Laymen McGrady, was a former freshman on the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles men’s basketball team.

According to a recent report from ESPN’s Shams Charania, McGrady has now secured a role with Wagner College. The move comes after his son had secured a transfer from Oral Roberts to Wagner last month.

“Naismith Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady has taken a role with Wagner College as strategic advisor for the men’s basketball program, joining his son Laymen who committed to the team, per ESPN sources,” wrote Charania.

He further opened up in detail about the Hall of Famer’s role as a part of Wagner’s MCBB. “McGrady will lead Wagner’s basketball operations, recruiting and name, image and likeness efforts, and joins a number of current and former NBA players to take administrative positions in college, such as John Wall (Howard), Stephen Curry (Davidson), Shaquille O’Neal (Sacramento State), Trae Young (Oklahoma) and others.”

Last month in Apr. 2026, several reports emerged that Laymen entered the transfer portal after redshirting at Oral Roberts University during the 2025-26 season. Despite his place in the squad, McGrady never played for the Golden Eagles. After the reports went viral, McGrady also uploaded an Instagram photo, where he was seen wearing the number 1 jersey for Wagner while standing alongside his father and mother, CleRenda McGrady. He is also reportedly joined by another former Oral Roberts Golden Eagles player, Baron Smith Jr.
