Tennessee Basketball Makes Eighth Transfer Portal Addition

The Tennessee Volunteers have been aggressive in the transfer portal after their Elite Eight loss to the Michigan Wolverines in the NCAA Tournament. So far, Rick Barnes and his staff have landed eight commitments, ranking 22nd in the nation with an average transfer rating of 93.57.

Headlining the group are players such as guard Juke Harris (Wake Forest Demon Deacons), forward Jalen Haralson (Notre Dame Fighting Irish) and guard Terrence Hill Jr. (VCU Rams). Still looking to improve their roster, the Volunteers made their latest addition on Thursday.

On3 national basketball reporter Joe Tipton reported that Tennessee received a commitment from former VCU forward Christian Fermin.

Over the past four seasons with the Rams, Fermin has appeared in 90 games and made 49 starts. He has averaged four points, 3.1 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. He’s also shot 55.3% from the field and has never attempted a three-pointer.

His sophomore performance has been his most impressive so far, averaging 5.2 points (career-high), four rebounds (career-high) and 0.5 assists. Fermin was limited to just four games last season after stepping away for a personal reason and redshirting.

On3 Industry Rankings list him as the No. 119 power forward and the No. 483 player to hit the transfer portal this offseason. Now set to join the Volunteers, he has just one more year of eligibility.

He has the opportunity to help Tennessee replace some of its own lost talent through the portal. Barnes and his staff had seven players depart, three of whom are listed as power forwards. That includes J.P. Estrella (Michigan), Jaylen Carey (Missouri Tigers) and Cade Phillips (Texas A&M Aggies).
