Michigan State basketball loses Divine Ugochukwu in transfer to LSU

Divine Ugochukwu is leaving Michigan State basketball.

The combo guard reportedly will transfer to Louisiana State after one season with the Spartans, according to On3.com. The former Miami (Florida) guard from Sugar Land, Texas, has two years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Ugochukwu averaged 5.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists and started 12 games for the Spartans before suffering a season-ending foot injury at Minnesota on Feb. 4 that required surgery. He entered the portal on April 22.

Michigan State’s Divine Ugochukwu moves the ball against Toledo during the first half on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.

MSU coach Tom Izzo added Ugochukwu last May after losing Jase Richardson and Tre Holloman following the 2024-25 season. The Spartans went 27-8 this season and made the Sweet 16.

Izzo also is waiting on rising fourth-year junior Jeremy Fears Jr., who will take part in the NBA Scouting Combine in Chicago from May 10-17. The All-American point guard and first-team All-Big Ten selection is exploring his draft potential while retaining his college eligibility.

To offset the loss of Ugochukwu and graduates Trey Fort and Denham Wojcik, the Spartans are bringing in a pair of four-star freshmen in point guard Carlos Medlock Jr. and shooting guard Jasiah Jervis. MSU also is expected to return Jordan Scott as a sophomore and Kur Teng as a junior, along with getting back wing Kaleb Glenn after an injury cost him the 2025-26 season following his transfer last spring.
