Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats missed on a number of their early targets in the transfer portal. Donnie Freeman ended up at St. John’s, Rob Wright went back to BYU, and as they tried to land recruit Tyran Stokes, many of the other options signed elsewhere. Now, the options are limited, and Kentucky needs to add a couple of difference makers.
Enter Milan Momcilovic.

Kentucky Sports Radio is reporting that Pope recently held a Zoom meeting with Momcilovic, hoping to lure him to Lexington in the event that he pulls out of the NBA draft. It would certainly qualify as a big win for Pope.
Last season, with Iowa State, Momcilovic averaged 16.9 points and over 3 rebounds per game. More importantly, the 6’8″ forward was one of the nation’s best three-point shooters, making almost 49% of his attempts from behind the arc on the year. Against Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament, he scored 20 points and made 4 threes as they knocked the Cats from the postseason.
Momcilovic is a great fit for Pope’s offense, and is someone Big Blue Nation has had their eyes on for a while now. He is going through the draft process, and has until May 27 to make a decision on that. If he does pull out, he’ll have suitors, but Kentucky should have a strong pitch and plenty of money.
We will update this story as more information becomes available.
