Indiana men’s basketball had quite a bit of time on its hands between the end of its first season under head coach Darian DeVries and the official start of its offseason with the transfer portal opening shortly after the conclusion of the Final Four.
The staff wasted no time.

Indiana was aggressive in those first few days of the portal, DeVries said, reaching out to prospects and scheduling visits to get them on campus as soon as possible. Having been through the process twice in as many years at West Virginia and Indiana, DeVries was familiar, but had the benefit of a full staff having already been assembled.
The staff frontloaded visits to get targets like former Georgia Tech guard Jaeden Mustaf and Duke guard Darren Harris on campus while zeroing in on other prospects who could address their primary goal: improving in the frontcourt.
“I thought we had a pretty good plan in place,” DeVries said. “As you went through the season, specifically Big Ten play, recognizing ‘What does this roster need to look like,’ and we certainly prioritized needing to get some size, some physicality and some depth there.”
Just over eight days into the portal being open, Indiana already had six commitments and a viable starting lineup to pair with the three incoming freshmen and lone returner Trent Sisley. The Hoosiers had a viable frontcourt pairing with size to spare between 6’11” Alabama transfer forward Aiden Sherrell and 7’2” SMU transfer center Samet Yigitoglu, a starter at point guard in Notre Dame transfer Markus Burton, proven athleticism and production in Georgia Tech transfer Jaeden Mustaf and shooting in Villanova transfer Bryce Lindsay.

DeVries also noted that the staff sought out prospects with additional years of eligibility following the 2026-27 season, which is true for each of the Hoosiers’ six portal signings, in building overall program stability.
