Auburn basketball added one of the more versatile players in college basketball when it picked up Thomas Dowd in the transfer portal.
Dowd was one of the key players for the Troy Trojans over the last few seasons, making two consecutive NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournaments as Sun Belt Tournament champions. This past season, he averaged 14.4 points per game and seven rebounds. He is also a player who can hurt opponents from beyond the three-point line. He was an All-Sun Belt performer who had 17 double-doubles during the season.

Auburn head coach Steven Pearl realizes the value of Dowd for his basketball team.
“Thomas is a multi-level scorer who can get to the rim and finish through contact, and his percentages from 3 don’t do justice for the level of 3-point shooter we see him projecting in our system. He is an underrated passer averaging over two per game because he is always looking to make the right play offensively for his teammates,” Pearl said when asked about Dowd.
His three-point percentage at 33% this season is not a great percentage, but he will force his defender out of the paint because his long-range shot has to be respected. He had a career high of 2.1 assists per game to show off his passing ability. He is not bad on the defensive end either. Dowd averaged 1.3 blocks and 1.2 steals.
