Duke Recruiting: Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje Commits!

Major news this morning as Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje has committed to Duke for 2026. Just 16, Boumtje Boumtje won’t turn 17 until late next month.

A 7-footer, Boumtje Boumtje has a well-rounded game. He’s been playing with FB Barcelona, but he’s actually from St. Petersburg, Florida.

Boumtje Boumtje fits the Duke profile in several ways. He’s athletic, has a diverse offensive game, and while we can’t say yet, has the potential to be a very good defensive player.

His father, Ruben, is Cameroonian and played college ball for Georgetown and spent time in the NBA. As we saw under Mike Krzyzewski, and now under Jon Scheyer, Duke likes players who come from basketball families.

The Sporting News lists his father in the past tense, saying “Ruben was originally from Cameroon, played college basketball at Georgetown and was a second-round pick of the Portland Trail Blazers in 2001. He was also 7-feet tall, and he played 44 games for Portland.” However, he is apparently still very much alive.

In the same article, Rivals is quoted as saying that “ …because of his age, he will be required to complete two years of college before becoming eligible for the 2028 NBA Draft.” That’s also incorrect. It’s an age requirement, not an educational requirement.

Boumtje Boumtje joins Cam Williams, Deron Rippey Jr., Bryson Howard and Maxime Meyer for another outstanding Duke class.

Here’s Duke’s roster for next season as of now:

Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje (7-0)

That’s an amazingly deep team, and, as we’ve seen with Scheyer, a big team, too.

He’s got three bigs, three point guards, and at least three pit bull defenders. This is going to be a fun team to watch.
