It was already known that Tyler Perkins is tough, but the junior was playing through more than was known towards the end of the season.
In an update provided today, the school stated that Perkins has “begun the recovery and rehabilitation process after recent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder. The Lorton, VA., native is expected to ramp up toward a return to full basketball activities over the course of the spring and summer months.”

Perkins started playing with a brace on his shoulder at some point in the latter half of the season, and apparently the injury was enough to require surgery. As if the level of respect for Perkins wasn’t already enough.
The statement also reiterated that earlier in April, the 6’4” guard “announced that he will return to Villanova for his senior season in 2026-27.” As the team is currently constructed, he would slot into the small forward spot once again. But the hope is that Villanova is able to bring in a starting center, which would slide Perkins down to his more natural shooting guard position. The improved defensive and rebounding in those lineups would give the Wildcats advantages that weren’t available a season ago.
