During his time at Kentucky, John Calipari was no stranger to being able to pull in some of the top-ranked recruiting classes in the nation, and now that he’s at Arkansas, it appears as if that is still the case. Arkansas recently received the commitment of Finnish recruit Miikka Muurinen, as per Jeff Borzello and Paul Biancardi of ESPN, giving Calipari the top-ranked incoming freshman class.

Muurinen’s commitment to Arkansas gives John Calipari four potential five-star recruits for the 2026-27 season. He joins guard Jordan Smith Jr., wing Abdou Toure and forward JaShawn Andrews as the Razorbacks’ incoming freshman for the upcoming season. It’s likely that all, if not the majority of them, will play key roles on the team.

Muurinen initially caught the attention of both colleges and NBA personnel following a strong showing at EuroBasket 2025 where he played alongside Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen for the Finnish national team. He had played high school basketball in the United States and had most recently played for pro teams overseas.

Among the other schools that were recruiting Muurinen were UCLA, North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky and Indiana. Muurinen also recently took part in the annual Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon, a showcase of some of the best high school aged players from both the U.S. and from around the world.

Arkansas is coming off a their second season with Calipari at the helm as head coach. They finished with an overall record of 28-9 and 13-5 in SEC play, while reaching the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.
