Dusty May might have just found Michigan’s Aday Mara replacement from the college basketball transfer portal. The Wolverines cleaned up late in the portal, landing Cincinnati transfer Moustapha Thiam.

The 7-foot-2 Thiam was the consensus third-best center in the 2026 college basketball transfer portal, and the No. 2 available after Flory Bidunga quickly signed with Louisville. He officially committed to Michigan on Friday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.

Thiam averaged 12.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game at Cincinnati during the 2025-2026 college basketball season. He ended the year as on the Big 12 Honorable Mention list.

Thiam began his college basketball career at UCF, where he averaged 10.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game as a freshman in 2024-2025.

Now onto his third school in as many years, Thiam lands with the 2026 National Champions, where he has the chance to take yet another leap in his career. May has proven to be one of the best in the business at developing frontcourt talent, turning Vlad Goldin, Aday Mara, Danny Wolf and Morez Johnson Jr. into NBA prospects.

With Mara and Johnson recently declaring for the 2026 NBA Draft, Thiam is now set to become Michigan’s next great big man. Johnson, however, is leaving the door ajar for a potential return to Ann Arbor.

Thiam is the third big man to commit to Michigan from the 2026 college basketball transfer portal. He joins Tennessee transfer JP Estrella and former LSU forward Jalen Reed in the Wolverines’ new-look frontcourt. May has not yet added any guards in the portal as he continues to aggressively pursue ACC Most Improved Player Juke Harris.
