Michigan State basketball lands 7-foot-2 transfer big man Anton Bonke

Michigan State basketball has its transfer portal center.

The Spartans landed a commitment from ex-Charlotte and Providence big man Anton Bonke on Wednesday, April 22, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. He was ranked as the No. 139 overall player in the portal this year and the No. 18 center, by 247Sports.

Before the 2025-26 season even ended, the center position was identified by many as a spot Tom Izzo had no choice but to fill on the 2026-27 team, even with highly-touted freshman Ethan Taylor set to arrive on campus this summer. With the graduation of Carson Cooper and Jaxon Kohler, the Spartans would’ve been putting a lot on the shoulders of Taylor right away.

Now, they can bring him along slowly like they have in the past with other highly recruited bigs like Jaren Jackson Jr., who went on to be the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
