Henri Veesaar is difference in UNC being a top 10 team

The North Carolina Tar Heels’ roster will look different next season as they prepare for the first year under head coach Michael Malone. While North Carolina is welcoming in some new players via the transfer portal, they are bringing back some players who saw minutes last season.

But the biggest factor for the Tar Heels success next season will be Henri Veesaar’s decision. The center is deciding between leaving for the NBA or returning to Chapel Hill for a second season.

As Veesaar ponders his decision, one analyst believes he is the single biggest factor in terms of UNC being a top 10 team or not.

Rob Dauster of The Field of 68 stated that Veesaar would be one of the best big men in college basketball next season:

“Henri Veesaar would be one of the best big men in college basketball next season. I think he’s the difference between UNC being good and like, a legit top 10 team.”

Veesaar is coming off a big season for North Carolina, averaging 17 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 60.8 percent from the field. When Caleb Wilson went down with his injury, Veesaar was the Tar Heels’ best player.

But if he doesn’t come back, UNC will have a huge hole to fill in terms of the center position. And options are running out.
