YouTube Gold: Who Is Duke Portal Commit Drew Scharnowski?

Drew Scharnowski announced on Sunday that he’s transferring to Duke from Belmont, which has led a lot of people to ask: who is Drew Scharnowski?

As it turns out, he’s pretty promising.

When you watch this video, you’ll see a guy who is big, athletic, and smart.

He is a capable defender, and a willing one, who could pick up some of Maliq Brown’s responsibilities. Statistically, he played about 22 minutes, averaged 10.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.3 blocks. He shot 68.1% overall, but just 20% from deep, and free throws are a significant weakness at just 43.6% on a team that finished around 70 in KenPom.

So he probably won’t spend a lot of time on the perimeter. However, when you watch the linked video, you’ll notice that he has an unusual intelligence for passing. This guy makes some pretty great passes. In particular, he has a knack for getting the ball to teammates who are moving through traffic to the basket. Not everyone can do that.

He seems like a good fit for what Scheyer has looked for in big guys.
