Ohio State men’s basketball adds former Duquesne guard, Solon-native Jimmie Williams

Jake Diebler and the Ohio State men’s basketball team continue to reinforce the roster via the transfer portal, with the latest addition bringing plenty of experience and an Ohio connection to the program in former Duquesne guard Jimmie Williams.

Williams, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound shooting guard, played this past season in Pittsburgh playing for the Duquesne Dukes. An Atlantic-10 All-Conference Third Team honoree, Williams averaged 15.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game last season. He shot 46.3% overall, 33.9% from beyond the arc, and 75.7% from the free throw line.

He was also sixth in the A-10 conference in steals per game (1.6), totaling 52 on the season. Williams was Duquesne’s third-leading rebounder on the season, averaging 4.5 boards per game.

Williams started all 33 games for the Dukes last season, scoring in double digits 29 times and putting up at least 20 points six different times, including a career-high 28 points against Saint Louis on January 20.

A northeast Ohio-native, Williams is from Solon and played at Solon High School before spending a post-graduate year at Covenant College Prep in Neptune City, New Jersey. From there, he began his collegiate career playing two JUCO seasons at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Alabama, where he was a NJCAA All-American in 2024 after averaging 22.5 points per game for the Lions. He then spent one season at South Florida before playing this past season at Duquesne. He has one season of eligibility remaining.

Williams brings experience to an Ohio State squad that, as it currently stands, has two freshmen, two sophomores, five juniors, and one senior on the roster — Williams and Josh Ojianwuna. He is likely ticketed for a reserve role, playing behind Justin Pippen and John Mobley Jr. (assuming he withdraws from the 2026 NBA Draft prior to the deadline).
