The Kansas Jayhawks had a successful backcourt foray into the transfer portal a year ago with their acquisition of Melvin Council Jr.

They’re going back to the well this time around, and Terrence Hill Jr. might be the new pursuit.

“Kansas is a notable team in the Hill sweepstakes,” writes Isaac Trotter of CBS Sports in his new transfer rankings.

Hill grabbed some attention in March thanks to big-time play for VCU, and he chose to parlay that performance with the Rams into the pursuit of a high-major college basketball home.

He averaged 15.7 points per game in 2025-26 and has impressive outside shooting capabilities, as well.

“Hill has real game,” Trotter writes. “The 6-foot-3 guard drilled 41% of his catch-and-shoot 3s and shot over 63% at the rim. Those are both impeccable marks, and he can create something out of nothing off the bounce while playing clean basketball. Hill had two or fewer turnovers in 30 of 36 games this year for a VCU club that advanced to the Round of 32.”

Kansas wasn’t initially certain whether Bill Self would return to keep coaching, but he is coming back, and now they’ve got to replace Council and the presumed-to-the-NBA Darryn Peterson.

Hill could certainly keep Kansas in the ranks of some of the best teams in the country, a place they always expect to be.

There’ll be more programs in the mix, too, but if the Jayhawks land Hill, that’s a big balancing act in the portal for a Kansas program that has already lost center Flory Bidunga to Louisville.
