Despite sputtering through the 2025-2026 season, Indiana has been successful in the college basketball transfer portal. However, they suffered a key loss with guard Tayton Conerway hitting the open market.

Conerway started 19 of his 27 games for the Hoosiers in 2025-2026 but lost minutes down the stretch of the regular season. His decreased role unsurprisingly led him to enter the transfer portal for the second consecutive offseason, CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported on Wednesday.

Conerway committed to Indiana in the 2025 offseason after two quality seasons at Troy. He ended his tenure with the Trojans winning the 2025 Sun Belt Player of the Year award after averaging 14.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.9 steals per game as a sophomore. Conerway briefly considered entering the 2025 NBA Draft before withdrawing his name and committing to the Hoosiers.

Conerway’s mid-major prowess led to him starting the 2025-2026 season as Indiana’s starting point guard, until he became the biggest victim of head coach Darian DeVries’ midseason adjustments. The Hoosiers’ offensive struggles convinced DeVries to demote Conerway and give more playmaking opportunities to veteran guards Lamar Wilkerson and Conor Enright.

Despite wrapping up his fifth season of college basketball — Conerway began his career at JUCO programs Grayson College and Ranger College — the Texas native will have one year of eligibility remaining. He turned 24 in January.

Conerway is now the seventh Indiana player to enter the college basketball transfer portal since its season-ending loss to Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament. However, he is only one of two players who had a significant role in DeVries’ rotation last season, joining junior guard Nick Dorn.
