The Tennessee Volunteers men’s basketball are having a successful run in the transfer portal, which comes as no surprise with Rick Barnes leading the program. However, this portal cycle feels different, as Tennessee has significantly increased its NIL resources for men’s basketball, giving Barnes more financial flexibility than ever before.

“Tennessee basketball is on track to be among the elite in NIL spending next season. On3’s Pete Nakos on Thursday reported the Vols are one of a handful of teams set to spend $10 million or more in NIL for its roster next season,” VolQuest’s Grant Ramey wrote.

The Vols are targeting some of the top names in the portal, including highly coveted Jalen Haralson from Notre Dame Fighting Irish men’s basketball.

“Notre Dame transfer Jalen Haralson has cut his list to the following programs. Tennessee, Ohio State, North Carolina. Averaged 16.2 PPG and 4.0 RPG last season,” CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein wrote.

Haralson will be a sophomore next season, meaning he has significant eligibility remaining if he does not declare for the NBA. He is a former McDonald’s All-American, and Barnes is pushing to bring him to Knoxville as he begins his visit on Rocky Top.

“Notre Dame transfer Jalen Haralson is set to arrive on campus later today. The six-foot-seven, 220 pound wing averaged 16.2 points on 51.5% shooting from the field. Haralson was a McDonald’s All-American, Team USA U17 member, and a five-star recruit in the 2025 class,” Vols reporter William Patteson posted.

Barnes has gone 3-for-3 on visits so far, landing Dai Dai Ames, Miles Rubin, and Tyler Lundblade. If Tennessee can secure a commitment from Haralson before he leaves Knoxville—or at least extend his visit—it would be a major win.
