Texas A&M has reportedly contacted Duquesne transfer guard

Texas A&M’s first full offseason under head coach Bucky McMillan kicked off after the 2026 transfer portal opened on Tuesday, and after losing reserve guard Josh Holloway and Spanish sharpshooter Ruben Dominguez, who has since committed to Xavier, the Aggies landed one of the top available players in the portal, as former Kansas State standout guard PJ Haggerty is headed to College Station for the 2026 season.

Still, in order to compete for a fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament bid, McMillan will now need to build around Haggerty, who averaged nearly 24 points per game last season, while shooting 48% from the field. This shouldn’t be an issue given his elite talent, but with the portal set to close on April 21, time is of the essence.

Needing at least three more impact players, the Aggies are still waiting to hear if senior guard Marcus Hill will receive a waiver to play next season, and are contending for several productive transfer guards who would provide an immediate impact in the starting lineup, including former Duquesne guard Jimmie Williams, who has reportedly been in contact with 13 teams, including Texas A&M.

Standing 6’5″ and 210 pounds, Williams led the Dukes with 15.1 points and 4.5 rebounds last season, shooting 46% from the field, 33% from beyond the arc, and 75% at the free throw line. Similar to Haggerty, Williams is a shot creator and highly efficient at the rim, which is required in McMillan’s fast-paced offense.

Williams’ size would also be a major plus, as the Aggies had to resort to small ball after losing former Indiana forward Mackenzie Mgbako before SEC play last season.
